Patient Safety

Patient Safety and Quality Masterclass (5-7 November 2018, Madrid) - 14 CME credits

The Patient Safety and Quality Masterclass is an advanced scientific workshop dedicated to learning principles and practice of patient safety, clinical risk management and quality of care.

For the first time in the EPSQMC there will be a full section dedicated to the way patients perceive safety in healthcare. Coby Omvlee will join the MC faculty to testify her experience as long term hospitalised patient. Ms. Omvlee is an actress that had a car accident and after some surgery gone bad, she declares, “the hospital became my home. And puzzled, I observed how today’s hospitals are run: Cutting expenses, outsourcing and fragmenting medical responsibilities – what does this lead to for staff and patients, and our patient safety?” Ms. Omvlee experience was then staged as “Stayer”, a theatre performance that conquered the audience reporting enthusiastic reviews. Coby presented a lecture in Euroanaesthesia 2018 - Copenhagen and the faculty of the EPSQMC decided to have her on board to share and deepen her knowledge of patient safety from a very particular point of view.

Target audience

The course is open to ESA members who speak and write English fluently. This course is aimed at anaesthesiologists who may have some experience in patient safety and are clearly motivated in their choice of being patient safety and quality champions in their departments.

Learn by doing

Programme contains series of lectures, simulations and interactive workshops during which participants will apply their knowledge through practical exercises.

Educational targets focus on the following goals:

  1. Provide a theoretical update on different aspects of the current state of the art in the different fields of patient safety and quality in anaesthesiology
  2. Provide the possibility to train skills and learn new techniques with regard to the different required practical skills for the anaesthesiologists in the management of clinical risk, hazards and quality of care.
(workshops, role playing and full scale high fidelity simulations)
  3. Provide a forum of scientific exchange with peers and possibility to discuss therapeutic options with key opinion leaders.
