‘The European guideline on management of major bleeding and coagulopathy following trauma: fourth edition’, endorsed by the ESA, has been published in Critical Care.

A total of 1335 anaesthetists registered for the OLA. Candidates sat simultaneously in 95 centres throughout the world on Friday 8 April 2016 at 14:00 CEST in 10 different languages including Chinese. The OLA was offered in 80 European and 15 non-European centres. For the first time centres were opened in Brazil, Oman and China making the OLA a truly global examination assessing the knowledge of anaesthesiologists across the world.

The ESA President, on behalf of the ESA Board of Directors, sends his support and admiration to all the anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses, and all emergency staff in hospitals and emergency services dealing with the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Brussels and Turkey and the many other cities and countries which have been the recent targets of terrorism.

Nine African societies have signed and committed to implementing the Helsinki Declaration on Patient Safety in Anaesthesiology.

The ESA is delighted to welcome Dr Zeev Goldik as its new President and Prof Stefan De Hert as new member of the Board of Directors. Prof Daniela Filipescu continues to serve as Past-President during 2016.
