Chairperson of the Scientific Committee

The three-year tenureship of the Chairperson of the ESA Scientific Committee (SC) becomes vacant on 1 January 2021. 

The future chairperson will be appointed on 1 July 2019 and will spend 18 months as Deputy Chair before becoming the SC Chairperson.

The mandate will be as follows:

  • Deputy Chairperson – 1 July 2019 – 31 December 2020
  • Chairperson – 1 January 2021 – 31 December 2023
  • Past Chairperson: 1 January 2024 – 30 June 2025

The new Chairperson will take over from Professor Andreas Hoeft, and will liaise closely with him.

The post requires:

  • close liaison with the Scientific Department of the ESA Secretariat in Brussels throughout the year;
  • planning the Scientific Programmes of the main ESA Congresses (Euroanaesthesia and Focus Meeting);
  • planning, submission and evaluation process of the Euroanaesthesia abstract sessions;
  • planning and chairing of three SC meetings per year (one during Euroanaesthesia).

The Chairperson of the SC is appointed ex officio on following committees:

  • Board of Directors;
  • Research Committee;
  • Congress Committee;
  • Patient Safety and Quality Committee;
  • National Organising Committee;
  • Guidelines Committee;
  • Specialist Societies Committee (as Chairperson);
  • Industry Liaison Task Force.

Previous experience in running scientific programmes for large anaesthetic meetings would be advantageous to an applicant.

Applications must be received no later than 28 February 2019.

Appointment will be made by the ESA Board following recommendation by the Nominations Committee. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed to select the successful candidate.
